Saskatchewan RCMP is reporting multiple collisions east of Balgonie on Friday due to icy conditions and zero visibility due to blowing snow. According to a news release just before 4 p.m., RCMP said the Highway 10 overpass directing travel to Yorkton is “sheer ice” with vehicles unable to drive on it. As of 4:30 p.m., Highway 10 from Balgonie to Fort Qu’Appelle is closed due to ice, loose snow, snow drifts, swirling snow, and drifting snow, according to the Highway Hotline. Highway 11 is closed between Aylesbury and Davidson with several vehicles in the ditch, RCMP said. As well, the RCMP said an officer who is out responding to a collision reported a whiteout on the road. The RCMP is advising drivers to avoid non-essential travelling on the highways and to stay home and stay safe. If travel is necessary, RCMP advises drivers to check Highway Hotline to see what roads have recently received maintenance. Earlier in the afternoon, RCMP officers also reported that two semi units were jack-knifed across Highway 10 on the Regina side of the Qu’Appelle Valley.
